Tokyo/Токио

Not all of the Tokyo is flat, there are hills too. And also, the taxi cab is an old Toyota Crown. Toyota Crown is a luxurious car, and even though it may be more than 10 years old it is still being widely used, and not only for taxis.

I had a chance to talk to a person from Tokyo yesterday. I asked how things were over there. He said that the things were "just ok." Not good, but just ok. He mentioned that they are saving electricity, the escalators in the subway are turned off, there is no air conditioning inside the subway train cars.

According to the media, this summer will be tough for half of Japan electricity-wise. It turns out that half of Japan is on a different electric frequency than the other one. Northeastern Japan is on 50 Hz, while the South and West of the country is at 60 Hz. The Northeastern part (that includes Tokyo) will suffer from no air conditioning this summer, and the West will not help because there are hardly any means to transfer electricity from 60 Hz to 50 Hz.
