Oirase gorge stone hut/

This stone hut is located in one of the places along the Oirase gorge. The sign says, that according to the old stories, an evil woman lived there who would steal from people passing nearby.

More Japanese superstitions/

Here are some of the Japanese superstitions:

"If you whistle at night, snakes come around." There are snakes in Japan, and some of them are poisonous.

"If you sneeze three times, someone may be talking about you." Those, probably, who are talking about taking you to the doctor.

"If you have thick and large lobes on your ears, you will become rich." Start stretching them now.

"You will get better from a cold once you pass it to someone else." It is more fun to be sick together!

"If you sleep right after you eat, you will be a cow." That's the same all over the world.

"When frogs make sounds, it may rain." It may or it may not. Sounds like a usual weather forecast. :)

People say.../

We were talking about japanese traditions today and two random people told me that there is a tradition in Japan that states that sleeping in red cotton underwear will make you healthy. I checked several sources on the Internet, and I found out that red color in feng shui is believed to be a powerful source of energy capable of scaring away bad stuff.

Japanese eggs/

So here is an interesting fact about eggs produced in Japan. First, let me tell you that this information is not a 100% fact so treat it as a rumor that I have heard, and it is not a scientific fact, so if you do decide to try it, try at your own risk. Anyway, it is not uncommon in Japan for an egg to have an expiration date printed on the egg. And here is the rumor part: that expiration date means that the egg can be eaten raw by the date printed on it. The egg is still good after the date, it is just that it would better be cooked.

There are dishes that use raw eggs. For example, a raw egg is sometimes added to the bowl of ramen (noodles), and, even though the soup is hot, it may not be hot enough to completely boil the egg. Also, there is a dish (actually sold in a fast food place), where a raw egg yolk is added on top of a rice bowl, mix it up and eat. There is also a dish (I overheard someone talk about it) where pieces of meat (cooked, I assume) are dipped into raw egg. Several years ago I was going through Korea and I had pizza for dinner (Italian style, flat crust) and there was an egg yolk in the middle, not cooked all the way through. Tasted good.
