The flush lever of my toilet looks like this:

It took me a bit of researching to find out that the upper character means "big" while the lower character means "small." I never thought I'd have to research the Internet to be able to use a toilet.
Я залез в интернет чтоб узнать что означают иероглифы. Оказалось что верхний иероглиф значит "большой" а нижний значит "маленький", теперь все понятно, интернет помог пользоваться унитазом правильно.
In Japan, there is such a thing as a "Japanese-style toilet," see the picture below . In some public places, that is the only option available. In other places, there are Japanese-style toilets and Western-style toilets.
В Японии еще есть туалеты в японском стиле (на фотографии внизу). В некоторых общественных местах это единственный вид туалета. В некоторых местах в некоторых кабинках такие туалеты, а в других обычные (в "западном" стиле).
