The fair/

The fair is an essential piece of any festival or celebration. I have been talking about the Hirosaki Cherry Blossom Festival, so this post will describe the fair that was going on along the festival. Apparently, there was some radio broadcast on the Apple Wave.

This guy was very brave. He is running his bike at a high speed on some sort of treadmill and he is not even steering. You can hear him riding his motorcycle from far away.

I am not sure why this fish is on display -- whether it is a snack or just for sale. There was no one in the booth, so I could not ask.

This guy was playing a traditional Japanese instrument. He had just finished playing as we approached the stage, otherwise I would have taken a video. The instrument has a pretty unique sound.

This booth had stone figurines and just beautiful stones for sale. This stone is about a foot high and the price tag was 450,000 yen, which is (using today's exchange rate) a little over $5,600.

Here you can see different types of snack foods for sale. You can even get a cucumber on a stick.

Another food booth. This one had mostly seafood.

We saw people eating another snack, and even though I did not take pictures, it is worth mentioning. Konjac, or konnyaku totally looked like dark-chocolate covered chocolate ice cream to me, but after asking around, I was told that it is a zero-calorie food that is a popular diet item in Japan. I then recalled that I tried a piece of it in a soup before and I was not too impressed with the taste. Japanese Wikipedia page has more pictures of different kinds of snacks made with this plant.

Update as of 7/18/2011: I got a picture of the snack.
