The train is coming!/

We are on a train station waiting for a train. There are markings on the ground.

Watch out, the train is arriving. Maybe it will shed some light on the markings.

Ok, now it's clear. These markings designate where a train car door will be after the train stops on this station.

And that works almost for any size of train. Sometimes though, the train operator misses the mark, but it is usually not by far.

By the way, the lines on the ground is an interesting detail for a station. These designate the lines for the upcoming trains. The red line usually means a line for the next train. The green line is for people who are expecting the train that comes after the next train. After the next train closes doors, people in the red lane move to the red lane maintaining the order in which they were standing. Big stations have the trains leave every 3-5 minutes.

The lines system is also used for buses. It is a good crowd control measure.
