Tokyo Sky Tree/Небесное дерево Токио (башня)

Tokyo Sky Tree is the new tower in Tokyo that will replace the Tokyo Tower as the television and radio broadcasting medium. It currently is the tallest artificial structure in Japan and, once completed, will be the tallest tower in the world (at 2,080 ft). This picture shows the tower as of October 2010.

Башня Небесное Дерево Токио заменит телевизионную башню Токио как средство теле- и радиовещания. На данный момент эта башня, даже несмотря на то, что она недостроенная, является самым высоким искусственным строением в Японии. Как только башню достроят, она будет самой большой башней в мире (высота 634 метра). Эта фотография была сделана в октябре 2010-го года.

Tokyo tower/Телевизионная башня Токио

Tokyo Tower is the TV broadcasting and radio tower in Tokyo. It also has two observation decks. The first deck is located at 500 feet, it can be seen on the picture below, the two-story square balcony-looking thing in the middle of the tower. The second observatory is located at 820 feet above the sea level, and it is the circular area closer to the top of the tower. The winds shake the tower a little bit and can be felt at the first observation deck. The wait line to go to the upper deck was an hour, so we did not go there.

Телевизионная Башня Токио это телерадиовещательная вышка Токио. Помимо оборудования, на башне еще есть две смотровые площадки. Первая площадка распложена на высоте 150 метров (на картинке внизу, похожа на двухэтажный балкон),  а другая на высоте 250 метров (почти на самом верху, круглый балкон). Мы поднялись на первую площадку, там было много чего видно, но и чувствовался ветер, который раскачивал башню. Не очень сильно, конечно, но заметно.

The lower observation deck has windows in the floor, so anyone can see what 500 feet feels like for the birds and window cleaners.

На нижней смотровой площадке есть окна в полу, так что можно понять что чувствуют птицы на высоте 150 метров, ну или мойщики окон.

Also, there is a stage on the lower observation deck, it is used for broadcasting live concerts over the radio and other events.

На нижней смотровой площадке есть небольшая сцена. Ее используют в основном для радио-концертов. Но иногда бывают и другие события.

The island further away behind the bridge is called Odaiba. This artificial island hosts several headquarters of big companies and is one of the major shopping and sightseeing destinations of Tokyo.

Остров вдали за мостом называется Одайба. Наряду со штаб-квартирами крупных компаний, на этом искусственном острове находятся торговые центры и другие места отдыха и туризма.

Tsukiji fish market/Рыбный рынок Цукидзи

Tsukiji fish market is the world's famous fish market. We got there after noon, so there was not much going on. The activity usually starts at 3 am and is over by 11 am.

Рыбный рынок Цукидзи знаменит на весь мир. Мы пришли туда уже после полудня, поэтому смотреть там было уже нечего. Работа обычно начинается в три часа утра и заканчивается к одиннадцати утра.

Nevertheless, there was plenty to see and do around the market. For example, there are many tiny restaurants where you can eat the freshest seafood possible.

Тем не менее, вокруг рынка есть много всего интересного. Например, можно попробовать свежайшие морепродукты в одном из крохотных ресторанчиков, расположенных в двух шагах от рынка.

Also, there are a lot of tiny stores along the street leading to the market. They sell vegetables, spices, other food, make food, give out samples, and so on.

А еще на улице по пути на рынок находится большое количество мелких лавок. Там продают овощи, фрукты, специи, продукты, готовят еду, угощают едой, и так далее.

I cannot even imagine what this soup is made of.

Я даже не могу представить из чего этот суп.

The Emperor's castle/Замок Императора

On our way from Japanese Diet (that's how they call their Parliament), we ran into the Japanese Emperor's palace. Unfortunately, the direction that we had taken led us away from the entrance. By the time we came to the entrance from the other side (after a two-mile detour), we decided to save the visit to the palace for some other time. Please enjoy the pictures of the outside of the Palace.

На нашем пути от Японского парламента, мы дошли до дворца Императора Японии. К сожалению, мы повернули не в ту сторону, так что нам пришлось пойти вокруг дворца прежде чем мы достигли входа. К тому моменту как мы нашли вход, мы порядком подустали, поэтому решили оставить посещение самого дворца на потом. А сейчас полюбуйтесь фотографиями окрестностей.

There are plenty of wildlife in the waters around the castle.

В пруду вокруг дворца обитают птицы, рыбы, и земноводные.

This is one of the lights leading to the palace. It shows how much longer it is for the light to be red. The count goes from top to bottom, by the amount of the red bars.

Это один из светофоров, ведущий ко дворцу. На нем видно, сколько еще гореть красному свету. Отсчет идет по красным палочкам сверху вниз.

Japanese address/Японский адрес

Japan has a special addressing system. If you are walking in Tokyo without understanding the system (or knowing the Japanese language), the best tool to have is the phone with maps and GPS. If, however, you understand the system or know the language, then you will have no problem understanding the location from the picture below.

В Японии существует особая система адресов. Если ходить пешком по Токио и не знать системы (или японского языка), лучше всего помогает телефон с картой и системой GPS. Ну а если с пониманием системы проблем нет, тогда вот эта табличка скажет о многом.

Japanese special police forces/Японский ОМОН

We were wondering around the Japanese Diet building. Japanese Diet is the Japanese parliament, and there must have been an event going on there, because there was police on the streets and we went by the Japanese special forces' transportation. The interesting detail is that on any vehicle that belongs to the Japanese government, the manufacturer's label is replaced with the special symbol, something like a gold star.

Мы гуляли по району где находится японский парламент, и, по всей видимости, происходило что-то важное, потому что на некоторых улицах полицейские контролировали движение, и японский ОМОН тоже был неподалеку. Вот на чем они приехали. Любопытно что на всех машинах, которые принадлежат японскому правительству, эмблема производителя заменена на специальный символ похожий на золотую звезду.
