Hop-on, hop-off bus tour in Pairs/

This time we'll take a bus to see Paris from a slightly different perspective.

Vandom Square. The outside surface of the column in the middle, with the statue of Napoleon with a laurel wreath on the top, was made out of the cannons captured after the victory of Austerlitz battle.

This building looks like a theater. But this is the East train station.

(Gare de l'Est).
Moving along.

This is the old Opera building. It is no longer used for big premiers and shows because there is a newer theater built nearby, but this beautiful old building is still used for rehearsals and education purposes.

Passing the Louvre. On the left we have the entry to the museum an a large courtyard.

And on the right we have the arc at the entrance to the Tuilerie gardens.

We are crossing the bridge to get to the island called Cite. This is where Paris started. And the city received its name from the local tribe of people who lived here.

This is the love bridge with all the locks. People come here for their wedding day and put the lock on the bridge that signifies their union. It is more than likely that the key is thrown in the river.

We are on the Avenue des Champs-Elysees, a famous shopping area.

Arc de Triomphe is at the end (or at the beginning, depending on where you come from) of the street.

The Eiffel Tower from the place called "Trocadero".

And here is Trocadero (the Eiffel tower is behind us now). There was a palace here before, now the buildings host museums and galleries.

Paris has many bridges.

We are now approaching "Place de la Concorde," which translates as the "Agreement square." It was built in 1755 by a king's order. Then, during the French revolution times this square was renamed as the "Revolution Square" and many famous people (including royal blood) were executed here. The square got its current name at the end of the 18th century. When France got a gift of an ancient Egyptian pillar, it was decided to keep it here.

Leaving Place de la Concorde, approaching the church La Madeleine.
