Japanese police station/

Japanese police stations are quite small. A couple of people work there and there is sometimes even an apartment in the back for a police officer off duty.

Depending on the size of the territory for which they are responsible, police officers move around using a car or a bicycle.

All their efforts to keep the streets safe regardless of the time of day.

About stalactites/

This picture is from Gyokusendo caves in Okinawa. It shows that stalactites grow very slowly, only 1 centimeter in 30 years. That is about an inch in 76.2 years.

Landmarks and currency/

The picture below shows Shureimon, the gate to Shuri Castle. This historic landmark is now pictured on a 2000-yen bill. The bill is quite rare, but not because it is a collectible. Rather opposite, vendors don't want to deal with them because there is no special room in a cash register. The bill is relatively young, it was issued in 2000 to commemorate the 26th G8 summit held in Okinawa in 2000.

And here is the actual bill.

Tokyo Sky Tree

What are all these people taking pictures of? See the answer below.

They are taking pictures of the Tokyo Sky Tree, I wrote about it about a year ago. This time (October 2011), the tower looks done, even though the official completion date is not until December 2011. Nonetheless, a magnificent view!

By the way, these photographers on the picture above are by the Oshiage subway station. The station surroundings are being reconstructed because of the tower complex.

The tower can be seen from many places. This is Oshiage district.

And this is the view from the Tokyo station.

This is what the tower looks like from Asakusa.

Okinawa Kit Kat/

Okinawa (the southern-most province of Japan) has its very own Kit Kat flavor -- purple sweet potato (beni imo). Here is what it looks like:

Fence decorations/

Many fences have paintings on them, which are not easy to understand if looking directly at them.

But if you look from an angle, the pattern is quite clear.
