This building is almost 200 years old, it's an area for exhibitions, balls, and things like that.

Russian flag on a building in town is not because of a Russian Embassy. This is the Faberge Museum. Peter Carl Faberge was a famous jeweler supplying Russian tzars with expensive jewelry items. Most famous things are the Faberge eggs, those were the Easter gifts, only tzars could afford them, watch "Ocean's 12" for a little more details. This museum had at least one of them (or a replica, who knows?) on display, along with a bunch of other Russian military memorabilia from the early 19th century.

And these are the tickets to the museum. They are printed on a high-quality paper, using the protecting technologies similar to what they use when they print money.

Baden-Baden: Merkur mountain/Баден-Баден: гора Меркур

Baden-Baden is a very scenic German spa town with rich history and culture. There is lots to see here, lots to do, food is good, but before we go walk around, let's take a tram to the top of the local mountain for a scenic view.

Баден-Баден это живописный городок горячих источников с богатой историей. Здесь в 19-м веке отдыхали разные русские писатели. Сейчас здесь довольно тихо, но все равно есть что посмотреть. До прогулки по городу прокатимся на фуникулере на местную гору.


The tram cars are pretty small.

There is only one track, trams start simultaneously from the top and the bottom of the mountain.

Local restaurants decorate the interior with the old things. Some of them look very nice, although they may be hundreds of years old (like the cabinets in the pictures below).

This pretty manhole cover hides sewage from the streets of a small Aomori town.

For a moment, it seemed like we were under attack by German Forces.

Казалось что нас атакуют немецкие коммандо. Дружно идут, песню поют.

But they were singing something and marching together. Oh, it's May 1, a German marching team was in the neighborhood. No big deal.

Оказалось это просто маршировально-песенная команда. Первое мая на дворе, они так решили отметить.

Fog/Туман

Compared to fog in Japan, German fog comes in the morning and stays a while. Sometimes it dissipates into a sunny day, and sometimes not. It still can be quite thick.

По сравнению с туманом в Японии, туман в Германии приходит с утра и надолго. Обычно он означает что день будет солнечный, но иногда он просто приносит с собой облака и все что угодно, кроме солнца.

Castle ruins/Развалины замка

There are many old castles in Germany. Some are in better shape, some are not so much. Today we are visiting one of the oldest (built in 13th century) castles, castle Lichtenberg. Not much is left to see, but it's a pretty view from the hill. The church is still operational, there is something for the youth, and the tower is open, where you can climb to the fourth floor (no elevator) and enjoy the view (very windy though!). Let's walk around.

В Германии сохранилось много старых замков, некоторые из них в лучшем состоянии, остальные -- не очень... Сегодня зайдем в один из старых (построен в 13-м веке н.э.) замков, замок Лихтенберг. Особо ничего не сохранилось, но красивое место на холме, откуда много чего видно. На территории до сих пор работает церковь, есть небольшой краеведческий музей, и еще чего-то для молодежи. Пройдемся.

Not much variety with vanity plates in Europe. First 1-2 letters always designate the place where the care is registered. Then up to maybe 6 or 7 other symbols, with letters before numbers. And, of course, the number has to be unique.

В-общем тут обстоит все так, же как и в России. Буквы-цифры на выбор какие хочешь, но только чтоб все было в формате номера, то есть 1-2 буквы обозначающие место регистрации, а потом все что хочешь, но не больше шести символов, и сначала буквы, потом цифры. Ну, и чтоб такого номера уже больше не было.
