Naha International Street/

Kokusai dori (international street) is a big market-style shopping center in Naha. It is almost like an endless street with lots of small stores along the road. The big street has little streets going away from it and those little streets have more stores, parking lots, restaurants and so on. The market offers a variety of produce: souvenirs, groceries, household items, fresh fish, meats, vegetables and so on. The woman in the picture is crushing the blocks of brown sugar, another local specialty item.

The following picture shows what a local fish store has in stock for the day. You can buy fish and cook it at home, or you can choose it and it will be cooked for you in the restaurant that is located one story above this fish place.
