Let's go see the tower of Pisa.

The tower of Pisa is located on the Piazza dei Miracoli (which translates as "Square of Miracles" from Italian) in the city of Pisa, Tuscany, Italy. Besides the tower, there is also the Pisa Cathedral, the Pisa Baptistry, and the Camposanto cemetery. On the picture below the Baptistry is on the left, the Cathedral is in the middle, and the tower is peeking from behind the Cathedral.

Пизанская башня находится на Пьяцца деи Мираколи ("площадь чудес"), в городе Пиза, что находится в Италии. Кроме башни, на площади еще находится Пизанский собор, Баптистерий, и кладбище Кампо-Санто. На фотографии ниже Баптистерий находится слева, собор в центре, башня выглядывает из-за собора.

The Cathedral is closer, so let's go inside it first. The tickets were free, the visitors needed to get them in an office further down the path to its left.

Собор ближе, поэтому зайдем сюда сначала. Кстати, в собор надо было брать билет. Но он был почему-то бесплатный. Касса находится в здании слева за собором.

Florence, Italy/Флоренция

This time we are traveling to Italy. First destination is Florence (Firenze in Italian). The highways in Italy are pretty good with good markings. They are mostly toll roads, but it's not tremendously expensive.

На этот раз мы едем в Италию. Первая остановка -- Флоренция. Шоссе в Италии в основном платные, но дороги хорошие. Проехать по дороге с ветерком стоит не так уж и дорого.

The central square of the town is occupied by the Florence Cathedral, Cathedral of Saint Mary of the Flower. It is over seven hundred years old. It is a big and beautiful cathedral, but there are no non-beautiful cathedrals in Italy. Let's walk around.

На центральной площади города находится кафедральный собор, Санта-Мария-дель-Фьоре. Его начали строить больше семиста лет назад. Большой, красивый собор (в Италии в принципе других нет), пройдемся вокруг.

Outside walls have intrinsic decorations.

Внешние стены собора детально украшены.

Let's walk further around the town; it's a good thing it's not big and a lot of places are in a walking distance. And just walking around these historic buildings feels like a romantic adventure.

That's an interesting building further down the street. Let's walk up to it and see what it is.

Oh, this is the building of local municipality. The building is called Palazzo Vecchio, it is also over seven hundred years old, and this building has a lot of history.

О, так это же городская администрация! Здание называется Палаццо Веккьо, ему тоже больше семиста лет, и у него тоже богатая и интересная история.

Nice! But we are moving along.

It is hard to imagine how many people have these cobblestones seen.

Даже невозможно предположить сколько людей повидали эти тротуарные камни.

And this sculpture is relatively new, this copy was cast in 1998, but it's a good tradition to rub this boar's nose and put a coin in its jaws such that it falls out into the grate for good luck. Apparently, a lot of people know about this tradition. Original statue was found while excavating the places where ancient Greek people lived and moved to Florence in middle ages. Now copies of this statue are all over the world. And the original is located in Florence, in Ufizzi museum.

А вот эта статуя была отлита совсем недавно, в 1998-м году, но на удачу кабану трут пятак, а потом засовывают в зубы монетку чтоб она упала в решетку, считается что это приносит удачу. Видно многие знакомы с этой традицией. Оригинал статуи был найден на месте древнегреческих раскопок и перевезен в Италию в средние века. Сейчас копии этой статуи находятся в разных местах по всему свету. А оригинал, тот что вывезли из Греции, находится во Флоренции, в галерее Уфицци.

Such statues decorate regular houses, it's not a court or a church or anything important like that. Just a house in downtown Florence...

Вот такие статуи украшают обычные дома в центре Флоренции, это ни церковь, ни здание суда. Просто дом...

Or this. A statue, some kind of historic-looking fountain and a dude talking on his cellphone. It may not add up for someone, but is pretty normal for Florence.

Ну или вот так. Статуя, какая-то историческая приступочка, то ли фонтан, и чувак идет и разговаривает по сотовому. Разрыв шаблона. Нормальное явление для Флоренции.

Now we are approaching a bridge called Ponte Vecchio ("Old bridge"), as indicated on the right street sign. Besides the fact that it is a really old bridge over the river Arno, it is also a very old shopping place. As a matter of fact, it is hard to tell that it's a bridge, more looks like a street with stores on each side.

Мы подходим к мосту, который называется Ponte Vecchio (Понте Веккьо, переводится как "старый мост"), как написано на табличке справа. Кроме того, что это действительно старый мост через реку Арно, это еще и старинное место для торговли. Проходя здесь даже иногда сложно понять, что ты на мосту, это больше похоже на улицу с магазинами по сторонам.
