Brussels: flower carpet/Брюссель: ковер из цветов

Every two years the Grand Marketplace in Brussels gets covered with flowers. This year they decided to go with the Turkish motives. Begonias were used to create the carpet.

This sign shows that there's a speed limit of 50 km/h (31 mph) in town, 90 km/h (56 mph) on a motorway (a road outside of a city limits, but not a highway) and 120 km/h (75 mph) on a highway if not posted otherwise. Roads are nice.

There are quite a few parks and lots of greenery here despite the high land prices due to the fact that it is a capital city and an unofficial capital of the European Union.

Boat ride on the Rhine in Dusseldorf/Водная прогулка по Рейну в Дюссельдорфе

Dusseldorf is one of the centers of German fashion. Besides the numerous clothes stores, there is also a decent embankment. After a long shopping day, it may be nice to catch a boat ride.

Cologne/Кёльн

The weather is nice, let's go to Cologne. The windmills are abundant along the way. Germany is successfully using alternative energy sources.

Cologne is famous for its Cathedral, which can be seen from far away. The Cathedral's construction started almost 800 years ago.

В центре Кельна расположен собор, который видно издалека. Знаменит он тем, что его начали строить почти 800 лет назад

Intricate details are at every level of the Cathedral.

С какой стороны ни смотреть, везде просматриваются тонкие детали исполнения.

It's possible to get on the very top of the Cathedral by stairs (no elevator). It is over 500 stairs to the very top. Visitors who go up and down share one narrow spiral staircase. One can enjoy the views of the city along the way as well as appreciate the real size of the statues that may seem small from the ground level.

Можно забраться на самый верх собора по ступенькам (лифта нет). До смотровой площадки свыше пятисот ступенек. Подъем и спуск почти до самого конца происходит по одной и той же узкой винтовой лестнице. По дороге можно оценить виды Кельна, а также увидеть реальный масштаб статуй, которые снизу кажутся не такими уж и большими.

The bells ring every fifteen minutes. It is one thing to hear it from several miles away, and a totally different experience hearing it ring from twenty feet away.

Having climbed all the way up, anyone can enjoy the details of the Cathedral's dome and views of the city.

And then back downstairs, same stairwell.

Потом -- обратно вниз. По той же самой лестнице.

The embankment, located close to the Cathedral, provides plenty of great places to eat lunch or dinner.
